Days Go By, But Bring Surprises

‘Days go by…’ celebrates time-marking, care-taking and collective memory. Beginning with quick paper-cut and monoprint exercises and reflecting on writing by the artist Etel Adnan, the final prints take four dates chosen for their sentimental significance as a starting point for collaborative image making. This publication looks to document the tactile processes of the project and to reframe and honour our relationship to days past and days ahead; and the time consuming, unpredictable nature of print deeply informed our process.

The four letterpress prints and accompanying book were made in residence at LCBA. The prints were made on a Stephenson Blake press with acrylic stencils. The book was Risograph printed in black and teal with a foil blocked cover.

The title for the project is taken from 'Shifting the Silence' by Etel Adnan: "Days go by, but bring surprises. Friends come, and they’re messengers, birds of good omen."
